Default TRAXXAS XL-5 Stampede Review

I would like to start off by saying I have owned a Stampede for the last 17yrs .... I have done everything to one of these trucks that you can possibly do for the most part .. From Bashing to racing . I love this truck and it is Always my first choice for new truck owners ... With that said this is my "review" on the XL-5 Stampede .....

First things first ..... The 1-10 grading system

The pros...

1). Nice Choice in color change by way of grey plastics .... I think it gives the truck the cntrast it has deserved for a while .... 10

2). Excellent use of the "NEW" 2.8 tires .... Its a great upgrade from the old stock 2.2's .... It gives you just that added height you need for those ICKY situations ... 8.5

3). I like the XL-5 ESC .... As far as stock ESC's go it is GREAT ..... it gives you fantastic motor options that were not availible with the stock MSC, and the XL-1 ..... 8

4). Jato Slipper Clutch .... It just works great and is much easier to change than the older and cumberson Slipper of the mid 90's .... 9

5). Thicker tranny housing .... Much needed especially for those that really put the heat behind this ride ... 8

I found that running it stock it was a great truck.... It performed like its name sake of old and gave you everything it had ...... From steering to excelleration i found that it is a all around fantastic truck to drive and work on .... It would be great for a beginner and or an experincced racer alike ....

The Cons ...

1). The "12" turn motor... It more like a dogged down 15t with no guts ... It also wont take long for most people to fry this motor due to the fact that if you run more than 360 amps through it for any length of time longer than 4 or 5 batteries the motor will begin to smoke ... On the bright side it makes a really neat paper weight ..... I know people that still have the same stock 20t stinger they have had since buying thier truck and still occasionally use it just for fun ..... This "12" turn motor will not be one you will have for years to come .... 5

2). The shocks.... Would it kill you people to make an adjustable shock .... These things blow out after 20-30 medium sized jumps and should be replaced ..... Unless your into constantly rebuilding your shocks and wiping off your gear because of severe shock leakage .... 7

3). Limited amount of aftermarket rims and tires ..... I really wish they would get on the ball with making a better selection ... If your gonna tease us by giving us bigger tires at least you can make some really cool stuff so we can make this thing our own .... 7

Grading the XL-5 Stampede .... 1-10

As a whole this truck passed my thrashings with a grade of a solid 8.5 ... If Traxxas has managed to get the Stampede this far into gear I can only imagine with some time and R/D work what they will do next with it ....

These are my opinions on what I found with the truck .... I welcome I am sure as well as others here will, your personal insight ...

Thanks for looking .. Big V

we were running a duratrax 4200 battery through it and it lasted only 4 or 5 runs and then smoked ..... They should put the max amps on the box or inside the instructions at some point to warn newbies and us maniacs alike ..... Thanks for the reply
